Frequently asked questions
What is Chain Tree?
Chain Tree is a competitor-intelligence tool for ecommerce. Search any Shopify store and see a revenue estimate, its best-selling products, and the overseas factories and suppliers behind them.
How accurate are the revenue numbers?
We show two different numbers, and we never mix them. Detected sales are sales we actually observed, by comparing a store's inventory between daily snapshots. Predicted revenue is our estimate of a store's overall scale, modeled from site traffic. Every store page labels which is which. Detected sales only appears when we can measure a store's whole catalog every day — if we can't (its products have per-order purchase caps, or the catalog is larger than we measure in full), we show the estimate alone rather than a partial figure. Neither is confirmed financials: they're for spotting growth, decline, and scale, not exact accounting.
Where does supplier and factory data come from?
From public shipping and customs records (bill-of-lading data) provided the US government. We map those records to the brands importing the goods, so one store search can reveal its manufacturers — and each manufacturer page shows every other brand it ships for.
How often does the data refresh?
Most tracked stores refresh daily. Very large catalogs refresh in daily batches until the full catalog is covered, so it may take a few days for a very large store to fully catch up after you add it.
How does billing work?
Pro is billed monthly or annually through Stripe. You can switch plans or cancel any time from your account settings; cancelling stops future billing and you keep access through the end of the paid period.
